BTS won a Billboard Music Award as the first Korean idol group to do so. On the 21st, BTS won the ‘Top Social Artist’ award at the Billboard Music Awards, which opened in Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena.

BTS has officially become the second Korean artist to win an award at the Billboard after Psy won ‘Top Streaming Song’ award with ‘Gangnam Style’ back in 2013.

As the first K-pop idol group to win, BTS competed with famous musicians including Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, and Shawn Mendes.

Since the awards returned in 2011, not only BTS was the first artist to get nominated, but also they won the award over Justin Bieber, who has been winning the trophy for 6 consecutive years. Although the winner of the category has been announced through Billboard’s official website until last year, the rule has been changed to announcing on stage from this year.

After Rap Monster received the trophy from the actor Logan Paul, he gave an acceptance speech in English saying, “I still can’t believe we are standing on the stage right now. We are very honored to stand and win on the same stage with great artists we respect.”

BTS received a large amount of support during the fans’ voting period. Since the voting started on the 1st, BTS has been number one on the list.

The winner was chosen based on their digital album sales, streaming, performances, and social participation. Therefore, the group’s active participation in social media was also helpful.
